In 2017, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) must resurface one of its primary runways (28L). Each weekend, airport police (SFPD) must verify the identity of the drivers of construction vehicles requiring access to the secure airfield. Escorted Driver Information Service (EDIS) app was developed, allowing SFPD to scan and validate a driver license in real-time. The app improved operational security and delivered cost savings of $34 million by expediting access to the airfield hence reducing the construction time. Therefore runway closures were also minimized substantially. The app was also featured in a news article published by Airport Improvement Magazine - Read Here!
Putting Airport Information in Employees’ Hands: There’s an App for That. SFO Copilot is a mobile application for iOS and Android devices that provides up-to-date operational information to enable airport staff to make better decisions for SFO's passengers. The application is one-of-a-kind in the Airport industry and setting examples for other Airports to develop a similar product. Since its launch, SFO Copilot has enjoyed ever-expanding usage, with a broader audience to come. The Airport is evaluating way to put the app in the hands of more employees, and may also evaluate a simplified version to allow travelers to communicate their own observations. SFO Copilot was recently featured in a magazine article. - Read Here!
